Dance at the Plaza: K-Pop [All Levels] with Sarah Medley

Class Description:

​​​​K-Pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. ​​As a dance genre, it is influenced heavily from many genres around the world, such as Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Experimental, Rock, Jazz, and Electronic Dance on top of its traditional Korean music roots. Modern K-Pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s and has grown into a global phenomenon with groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, TWICE, and more. K-Pop instructors will teach choreography from from various music videos or create their own choreographed influences from various styles of dance. Students should expect to learn fun combos and increase their performance quality.

All Fitness Court classes are outdoors at Civic Center / UN Plaza - 3537 Fulton Street, San Francisco, CA 94102. Located between Hyde Street and Market Street.

Meet Your Instructor

Sarah (they/them) was born in Southern California before migrating to San Francisco in 2017. Their love for dynamic formations, sharp, synchronized movement, and overall performance quality is what first drew Sarah to K-Pop. As an instructor, Sarah uses their experience in other styles like Hip Hop, Locking, and Shuffle to bolster their teaching and educate their students about the origins of many K-Pop concepts and trends.

In their class, you can expect to learn choreography by many choreographers of the K-Pop industry like Bada Lee, Rie Hata, Back Kooyoung, and BBTrippin.
