About this Event
In the light of the recent Far Right riots that took us all by shock and surprise, we are offering this dance as a space to be together in community, safely, as one, using dance as a form of celebrating our presence here in Devon. We can use our bodies that are full of power to dance, harness that power to become active in asking for strength and restoration in difficult times.
Many cultures around the World use movement, dance and song not only as a form of resilience but also as resistance. Movement is energy materialised. We can dance for peace, dance our anger, dance our grief, dance our sense of injustice, dance the truth as we know it, dance our sense of the possible, dance our deeper knowing of collective joy, dance our human way of simply being together... what we do here has impact and matters elsewhere. We can dance the nonsense of racists!!
-As with every Dance Against Racism you know our ethos is to raise money that supports local (and sometimes global) anti-racism causes. This event money will go towards running Resilient Roots, a safe space for the wellbeing of Global Majority heritage Devon people, run by Sandhya Dave and Malcolm Richards, supported by Devon Development Education
As usual DJ Somatic is providing all the tunes for the night. Expect all the usual musical goodness from Somatic including;
Afrobeat, Habibi funk, Jungle, Bossa, House, Dub, Cumbia, Breakbeat, Desi, Dembow and everything in-between.
Audio Groove is bringing the Function One rig.
Good sounds, good people, good moves, good cause, what's not to like!
Look forward to seeing and being with you all.
