Dalla Duo & more: Folk in the Wild '3: CORNISH SHOWCASE
About this Event
Part of Theatreship's guest nights - where contemporary artists take over the ship to highlight the stories they want to tell.
Here's some more info from them:
Led by Hilary Coleman and Neil Davey, the duo "Dalla" have been at the forefront of Cornish folk music for decades, keeping the Cornish dances, shanties and energetic folk tunes alive.
Cornish music has grown in popularity among London's exciting, young folk scene, via recordings from the Watersons in particular. Tunes from Cornwall are excitedly swapped up here in London after a few of us "up country" people come back from our trips to Galowan or Montol - but this is the real deal. I have cassettes of Hilary Coleman in particular playing Cornish tunes from the 1980s and she's written the book on Cornish pub songs (Shout Kernow). It is going to be a real treat.
The night will also feature support from Duncan McTaggart, a fine example of a Cornishman and the most beloved folkie in London. His Cornish repertoire rarely gets a proper outing and to see Duncan in his element is something everybody should witness.
In Cornish spirit, the night will also see a few Wesleyan songs, hurdy hurdy tunes and a jam first to ease proceedings.

Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. We also offer arts supporter tickets, for those that can, to pay a higher price to support the venue, the artists who perform here and subsidised tickets for others.
Due to the historic nature of the ship, we’re sorry to say there is not currently step-free access into the theatre space. We have dedicated staff on hand to help with stairs, and an onsite wheelchair once you’re inside the venue. If you have any access needs, please do e-mail us at [email protected].
