Reflecting fundamental elements of sound, soul, and the quest for freedom, this quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine, creates a world of unexpected new music. DakhaBrakha (meaning “give/take” in the old Ukrainian language) was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art “DAKH” by avant-garde theatre director Vladyslav Troitskyi. Combining Ukrainian folk music with rhythms of the surrounding world, DakhaBrakha’s musical spectrum is at first intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring cultural and artistic liberation.
