At Daft Disko '97, we will be recreating Daft Punk DJ sets of the late 90s.
We have been immersing ourselves in classic Daft Punk DJ performances from 1997-2000 and digging out the rare, and hard to find musical gems that allow us to faithfully recreate some of the best sets from the raves, parties and underground techno clubs that the iconic duo used to play. The format, of course, heavily features music from the influential, legendary French House record labels run by Daft Punk members Thomas Bangalter (Roulé) and Guy-Manuel (Crydamoure), as well as the numerous underground house and techno tracks of the era that the then young visionaries would often spin.
Their sets of the era were disco-infused, 90s techno and house, refreshingly dynamic with a sense of drama. They were always funky, occasionally soulful, sometimes abrasive, hard, deep and dark... and then... just when you're not expecting it... Michael Jackson! It was clear that these guys were a few steps ahead.
To find the right vibe for this party, we figured the idea location would be a small, dark, under-ground room with low ceilings, a powerful smoke machine and amazing sound... So we'll be taking the party to the basement of Eris in Brooklyn, where the the capacity is an appropriately modest 150 people, the sound system is a Funktion-One, and all of our requirements are comfortably met. There is also a separate, uniquely comfortable chill out room.
