Donor Advised Funds continue to shape the philanthropic landscape, creating both new opportunities and strategic challenges for fundraisers.
Participants will hear from a moderated panel of sector experts who will share practical insights into donor behaviour, emerging trends, and strategies for activating DAF giving.
Attendees will leave with greater confidence, actionable ideas, and resources they can incorporate into their fundraising strategies.
Jennepher Cahill
Director, Philanthropy, London Community Foundation
With more than 25 years of experience in non-profit work, both in Canada and in the UK , Jennepher has worked with people of all backgrounds and all sectors to build and strengthen community. She’s passionate about connecting people with causes that align with their values, fostering intentional and meaningful philanthropy that makes a practical difference.
A proud alumna of McGill University and University of Exeter (UK), she has worked for organizations in the arts, mental health, healthcare, and social services, most recently as Director of Development for United Way Elgin Middlesex, giving her a wide breadth of experience and interests as well as extensive local knowledge. Jennepher and her husband live on their farm in Middlesex Centre, where they raised their three wonderful daughters and now enjoy visits from their granddaughter too.
Jo-Anne Ryan, FEA, MFA-P
Vice President, Philanthropy at TD Wealth
Jo-Anne Ryan is Vice President, Philanthropic Advisory Services at TD Wealth. She develops strategies to help clients incorporate philanthropy in their overall financial and estate plans. As a certified 21/64 advisor, she works with multi-generational families to guide them along their philanthropic journey. She has played a leadership role in TD's initiatives around Women and Philanthropy since 2014, producing ground-breaking research and hosting events across the country highlighting the vital role that women play in driving social change. Jo-Anne is a sought-after speaker and media spokesperson on philanthropy and the charitable landscape. She is the architect and Executive Director of the Private Giving Foundation, the first donor advised fund to be launched by a financial institution in Canada. Jo-Anne is a member of Canadian Association of Gift Planner's government relations committee. She is also the Vice Chair of the Board for Bishops University Foundation and is a member of the advisory board at Carleton University's Masters in Philanthropy and Non-profit Leadership program – the only one of its kind in Canada.
Leigh Vyn, CPA, CA, CFP, FEA
Director, Tax Planning, BMO Private Wealth
With over twenty years of experience, Leigh understands the broad issues that wealthy families face. By taking the time to understand each client’s specific goals and objectives, she brings her extensive subject matter expertise to help guide families through the unique opportunities and challenges that they may be facing in the areas of tax and estate planning, corporate structuring, business succession planning, trust planning and family governance.
Leigh can skillfully take complex tax and estate issues, and speak to clients about these in a way that they can easily understand. Leigh joined BMO Wealth Management in 2017. In addition to her accounting background at KPMG, she has extensive experience in the investment industry, including working at a multifamily office where she led a diverse team. Most recently, Leigh worked as a Business and Family Wealth Specialist where she focused on tax planning and wealth transfer strategies for high net worth clients and business owners. For four years, Leigh co-authored the book “Tax Tips for Canadians for Dummies”.
Sue Noorloos, LL.B.
Director, Estate Planning, BMO Private Wealth
Sue advises high net worth individuals and families on estate and trust solutions as part of an integrated wealth planning team. She advises clients on their complex estate planning to help them understand the different strategies that can be used to transfer wealth efficiently while preserving family relationships and business interests. Called to the bar in both Ontario and British Columbia, clients benefit from her extensive experience with Wills, estates, trust and incapacity issues. Using her strong interpersonal skills, she is able to simplify complex estate matters for clients so that they have the confidence to instruct their trusted professionals. Prior to joining BMO Private Wealth, Sue gained invaluable experience at a regional law firm where her practice focused on private client services including estate planning, Wills, trusts, and estate administration ranging from routine matters to complex multi-jurisdictional estates. Sue previously worked with a large national trust company where she dealt with high-net-worth clients and advised them on complex estate planning.
Vicki Hayter (Moderator)
Director, Legacy Giving, Children’s Health Foundation
Vicki Hayter is Director of Legacy Giving at Children’s Health Foundation, supporting Children’s Hospital in London for nearly a decade. With 28 years of experience in gift planning and major gifts across healthcare, education and the arts, Vicki is a passionate advocate for relationship-based philanthropy and thoughtful donor and advisor engagement.
She is Chair of the London CAGP Chapter, a CFRE candidate, and the recipient of the 2023 Planned Giving Professional of the Year Award from The Donor Motivation Program Canada. A vocal teacher as well as a fundraiser, Vicki believes that “moments of silence are part of the music”- a philosophy she brings to her work in gift planning, where listening is often the most important part of the conversation.
