About this Event
Join us on Saturday, June 6th at the Martin Luther King Community Center in Indianpolis for an impactful workshop, educating men about maternal health, infant mortality, partner advocacy, and the birhting process. Whether you're an expecting dad, already a father, or plan to have kids in the future, this workshop is for you! Women, children, and community partners are also welcomed in this safe space as we dive into important topics to help men better understand the birthing process through our Dads to Doulas training, SALUTE!
Dads to Doulas aims to equip black men and expectant fathers with the knowledge and skills to advocate for their families from pregnancy through infancy. By providing doula-level education, we strive to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
Black women are up to 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes compared to white women. The mortality rate for Black infants is nearly twice that of white infants in our region. The core of the program is building a community and safe space for men/fathers for real time learning opportunities that will increase the understanding of how and why systemic racism affects unborn Black children. Dads to Doulas serves as a hub for the healing and empowerment for families, equipping them with tools and resources with the intention to increase the likelihood of infant survival.
