Dad La Soul (Brighton) Funky Playdate, Music, Tech + Craft for Dads & Kids

Dad La Soul is a multi-award winning revolutionary, grassroots movement that uses the arts, music, tech and play to tackle social isolation in dads and kids.

We produce kick-ass Saturday morning playdates for dads, stepdads, granddads and male carers who want to hang out with their kids, play/learn/teach new skills and make some new cool friends.

We bring them together, challenge conventions, spark conversations and start friendships with dads that perhaps might otherwise struggle in silence or isolation.

You can expect: Soft play, crafting, Lego, Giant Jenga, VR headsets to use in order to explore different places, times, planets, dress-up. And, as part of a monthly theme, everything from filmmaking, DJ workshops, circus skills, zombie mask making, den building, science lessons and a whole lot more.

Expect old-school tunes, games, card-making, free tea/coffee and general dad-related daftness.

Bring your favourite toys and games and join the party.

THIS IS WHAT WE'RE UP TO THIS YEAR:

• April 15th: Silent Disco! Plus all the usual toys and games available for those who don't want to dance.
• May 13th: TBC
• June 10th: Reusing and recycling is the key for this session, where we will be junk modelling, turning rubbish into cool stuff.
• WEDNESDAY July 5th 3pm-5pm: It's a FREE after-school rooftop party with free play, Lego, circus equipment and more to celebrate the Baton of Hope (open to ALL, not just dads)

• December 9th: It's our Christmas party, where we'll get festive with our activities ahead of the big day.

We have an incredible HQ based in partnership with the lovely folks at Plus X. Plus X is a seven-storey innovation hub that houses all types of business members from freelancers to corporates. The innovation hub encompasses business growth innovation programmes, support for sustainable product makers, design workshops, podcast studios, media suites, meeting rooms and event spaces - which is exactly where we will be! It includes a state of the art High Definition projector & sound system too!

Usually full of a smorgasbord of professional change-makers and purpose-driven entrepreneurs, Plus X is the perfect space for us to bring an army of kids into.

We are combining it with the heart and soul of the wonderful folks at Sussex Business Times Magazine, The County Business Group, and The Bevy - Brighton’s number one community pub/hub - to ensure that everyone gets access to this wonderful event.

Dad La Soul is a safe space for dads and kids to let off steam, have some banter and ask for help.

PLEASE NOTE: Parking is limited, so please come on foot or on public transport if you can. Or you can use the B&Q car park next door for 3hr. ( Just make sure you pop in and update your DIY kit whilst you are there..)
