About this Event
The presentation will focus on the importance of remembering the 22,442 service men and women under British command who fought and fell in the Normandy Campaign of 1944 through the creation of the British Memorial in Normandy over the last ten years. In 6th June this year as part of D-Day 80 commemorations, HM The King will be opening the Winston Churchill Centre adjacent to the Memorial. This facility will help future generations understand the role that D-Day played in opening up the path to peace and freedom in Europe, and especially the part that Britian played in the campaign.
General The Lord Dannatt, GCB, CBE, MC, DL, is the author of Churchill's D-Day, published on May 30th. Copies of Churchill's D-Day will be available for £25 with 50% of the proceeds going to the Memorial Trust of the 2nd Air Division USAAF. Please bring cash to purchase.
Please arrive from 7.15pm for the wine reception followed by the lecture. Note the library will be closed before 7.15pm.
