This evening is presented in partnership with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Thailand. Lieder (art songs) are poems sung by one voice accompanied by a piano or an instrumental ensemble whose repertoire was enriched until the early 20th century. Many renowned composers composed lieder such as Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms, just to mention a few. A lied is a very intimate musical form, where the voice narrates, evokes, describes, even screams or whispers whereas the piano creates the environment and paint the atmosphere.
Tonight's program includes the complete collections of Biblical and Gypsy songs by Antonín Dvořák and a selection of Moravian Folk song melodies arranged by Leoš Janáček.
This evening will take you on a musical journey through the Czech art song at the end of the 19th century.
