We can’t wait for this one!! A brilliant night of super fun live music from Bongo Joes records very own label boss (one of the Cyrils:) and an excellent Malagassi master musician playing support! We think Cyril Cyril sound like a mashup of Beck crossed with Tianriwen in the Swizz mountains where the special mushrooms grow! They are endlessly inventive and impossible to really categorise – just how we like it ! 🙂 We found out about them because they are both part of Yalla Miku who we put on earlier this year and tore it up!“Imagine an edgy sometimes abrasive, reinterpretation of Tinariwen-ish North African blues” Artsdesk (UK)
Now a description in their own poetic words: “Cyril Cyril repeats itself as a reflection would in infinite mirrors. A vagabond rumour, borrowed from age old whispers, beyond Mounts Atlas and Ararat, to whomever is willing to hear the echo of thousands of places where melodies hummed by angels and drums are beaten continuously since the birth of mankind.”
Songlines – Top of the World – ★★★★
With a banjo, a guitar, strange drums plus multiple voices and languages, Cyril Cyril cut brilliantly off kilter grooves. Fabulously inventive and playful these two RIP IT UP, bringing exuberant energy, memorable hooks and an anarchic spirit to their live shows. At times powerfully political, at others joyfully weird, they capture your attention like no other and you will inevitably leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated by their brilliant antics…! On top of all this the Madagsacan support act, Damily, will have you beaming with joy and reaching for your dance shoes. What’s not to love?!?
“A single word, a single cry can say a lot, as long as it is soulful. The sound of a duo reduced to its simplest expression – rhythm, a riff, a voice – can bear within itself an infinitely luxuriant musical organism – the double helix of DNA.” Cyril Cyril
“Cyril Cyril’s Le Futur Ça Marche Pas is for agitators, a genre-be-damned assemblage of poetry and vivid effects in the form of well-produced electronic rock.” Pop Matters
