Cypriot Antiquities in the UK: Building Cultural Bridges
understanding and build cultural bridges.
About this Event
Join us at the Cyprus High Commission in London for Cypriot Antiquities in the UK:
Building Cultural Bridges, a public panel discussion presented by the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission in collaboration with the Hellenic Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London.
The antiquities of Cyprus offer an extraordinary window into the island’s ancient history and its long-standing connections across the Mediterranean. Today, Cypriot artefacts held in museums and collections throughout the United Kingdom also provide an opportunity to introduce wider audiences to the richness and distinctiveness of Cyprus’s archaeological
heritage.
This panel will explore how the display and interpretation of Cypriot antiquities in the UK can reinforce the deep cultural ties between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, connect diasporic communities with the island’s past and encourage wider public engagement with Cyprus’s ancient civilisation.
At a time when cultural heritage can increasingly become part of wider political debates, the discussion will also consider how museum collections and the objects within them can create dialogue, understanding and cultural bridges.
