Cyclocross Skills Clinic: Free, All Levels, Denver
About this Event
Cyclocross Skills Clinic
Cyclocross is a strange sport, and there's no dignified way to explain it: you race a bike around a park through grass and mud and sand, and every couple of minutes you jump off, throw it over your shoulder, and run up a hill or a flight of stairs. It sounds ridiculous, and it is. It's also the most fun you can have on a bike.
How this works
There's no coach and no roster. We set up a few things to practice, everyone rides them, and people trade what they know as it comes up. If you've raced for a decade, you'll end up showing someone a remount. If it's your first time on grass, you'll ask a lot of questions and probably answer a couple. Both are the point.
Show up, work on whatever you want to work on, leave when you're done.
What we'll practice
Dismounts and remounts. Barriers and run-ups. Off-camber cornering. Hot laps. Handups.
Is this for me?
Yes. If you've never raced, never ridden on grass, and aren't sure your bike counts, that's the entire point. And if you've been racing for years, we need you there too - a session where everyone is a beginner is just a field full of people guessing.
Any bike works. Road bike, mountain bike, cross bike, the one you ride to work. Knobby tires are helpful but not required for learning.
What to bring
A bike in working order (check your brakes), a helmet, water, and shoes and clothes you don't mind getting grass-stained.
Weather: It's cyclocross. Rain and mud are the sport, so we ride. We'd only call it for lightning or something genuinely unsafe. Check Instagram that morning.
Free and open to everyone. Registering just helps us know how many people to set up for.
