As the digital age progresses, so does the cyber threat landscape. As we have seen in recent news, if it's not now, it is when. Prepare your organisation in anticipation of a cyber breach minimises the impact and reduces critical response time.


The Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre and No.1 Cyber Security education institution Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have partnered to deliver a comprehensive 4-day Incident Handling Course with in-person and virtual attendance available.


The 7-module course will provide participants with the skills and capabilities to build an incident management process and create response teams that will minimise data loss and build a resilience protecting organisation data assets.


Adjunct Professor Brett Tucker and Professor Riaz Esmailzadeh will co-deliver the workshop to the virtual and in-person attendees at the CMU Adelaide campus.


Course Dates:

Session 1: Tuesday 15 November 8am - 12pm

Session 2: Friday 18 November 8am - 12pm

Session 3: Tuesday 22 November 8am - 12pm

Session 4: Thursday 24 November 8am - 12pm

4 x 4-hour sessions, total 16 hours of training.

Module 1: Discussion of the Current Environment – What Happens When Cybersecurity Fails?

Module 2: Introduction to Cyber Risk Management

Module 3: The Incident Management Process

Module 4: Critical Information and Analysis

Module 5: Malicious Code and Intruder Threats

Module 6: Handling Events

Module 7: Vulnerabilities

Potential Exercises: Information Analysis, Incident Exercise, Vulnerability Handling

At completion of the course, participants will be able to:

Build an incident management process that includes:

  • Preparation
  • Infrastructure protection
  • Event Detection
  • Event Triage
  • Response

Create a response team to deal with incidents by:

  • Learning about roles and responsibilities
  • Building a response team structure that fits your organization.

Minimise impacts to your organization through:

  • Minimising data loss
  • Maximising resilience to recover normal operations.

Develop a communication plan that:

  • Informs stakeholders such as the public, customers, suppliers, employees, etc.
  • Addresses regulatory requirements – reporting to law enforcement, government, etc.

Address methods to restore:

  • Organisational data assets
  • Operations
  • Stakeholder confidence.
