Welcome fall by creating beautiful cyanotype prints from nature!
This fun workshop will teach you the art of cameraless photography creating one-of-a-kind cyanotypes from nature! Bring your own collections from summer including plants or textures that you find interesting or use our collection from 4th Street Studios Victorian Greenhouse AND we will have remnants that the staff of the CBG has collected.
In this 2 hour workshop, you will learn how to create solutions for your photography. You will then learn about composition and this process while experimenting with different types of paper and fabric. Each participant will create 5+ prints. There are two sessions for this workshop and space is limited. Registration includes all supplies and materials. It also includes $5 to Cheyenne Botanic Gardens to support their mission. Your workshop host is René Williams, artist and owner of 4th Street Studios and founder of the nonprofit Science Loves Art. René is a multimedia artist who loves experimenting with unique materials and nature to create art and experiences.
The cyanotype process was discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1842 using photo-sensitized paper and UV light, but it was a family friend Anna Atkins who was the first to use them in a series of published books cataloging her magical Prussian blue botanical imagery beginning in 1843.
We will learn the timeless process of botanical printing that Anna Atkins used, and then expand on that to create completely modern artful cyanotypes exploring the additions of texture and color to the images in fun ways. You are sure to make fun exciting discoveries all throughout this process creating completely one-of-a-kind art prints that are truly like magic every time they are developed!
These prints can be given an encaustic or cold wax finish!
