Cyanotype is a non-toxic, fun and creative way to explore the science of light and chemical reactions! This cyanotype class for kids is a hands-on, creative, and educational experience where children learn to make sun-powered blue-and-white prints using a safe, non-toxic photographic process.
Join teaching artist Melissa Wilgis in a hands-on cyanotype workshop. In this three-hour class, students are introduced to the basics of cyanotype, a historic printing method from 1842 that uses sunlight or UV light to produce rich Prussian blue images on paper. As they work, kids explore the connection between art and science by experimenting with composition, positive and negative shapes, and the way light reacts with light-sensitive materials. They create their own designs by arranging natural or everyday objects—like leaves, flowers, feathers, and cutouts—to form unique shadow images. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own objects to experiment with.
Perfect for beginners of all ages. All supplies are provided—just bring curiosity and enjoy a creative activity this summer.
The cost for one parent and child is $150. The cost for one parent and two children is $200.
