About this Event
This workshop will guide participants through print making from a sustainable greener positioning. We will talk through what the processes are, how they work, show examples and start to create work to print in class along with skills to continue at home. No experience required, suitable for all with an interest in eco practices, photograqphic practices or simply those who want to have a lovely day making, learning and sharing with the group!
Cyanotype printing is a historical eco friendly photographic process. When cyanotype solution is painted onto a surface and expsosed to UV light/sunlight it turns a rich gorgeous blue. Placing objects or photographic negatives on these exposures to block light in certain areas is a quick and beautiful way to create blue and white prints. From here there is potential to tone these further with botanical teas, expanding the palette.
Anthotype printing involves the use of plant extractions. These liquid extractions are painted onto paper and similarly left outside to expose. This process bleaches out areas that the sun reaches, while preserving areas kept under objects or image positives. This is a very slow process taking anything from a few hours to months depending on the pigments and the weather!
The format and pace will depend on the day, as cyanotype printing is left outside in sunlight to expose, but expect to make some cyanotype prints on site and to concoct an entirely plant based homemade anthotype emulsion to take home and expose over time. Participants will be asked to bring some plant smaples to create prints with and there is the option to send over a photograph to work with. Once booking is made, I will connect with you and guide you through what will be suitable. I will also provide images to work from for those who just want to turn up and play for the day!
