John Scanlon
John's first professional positions were with the Windsor, Ontario Symphony, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and the Florida Philharmonic. In 1989 he won a job with the Pacific Symphony and moved to the Los Angeles area. As a freelance violist John played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra and Opera Orchestra as well as the Hollywood Bowl, Pasadena and Santa Barbara Symphonies.
As a recording artist John played for television programs such as The Simpsons, Star Trek, Jag and Matlock; with singers such as Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Garth Brooks, Aerosmith and Michael Jackson; and for over 450 motion pictures including Titanic, The Lion King, Jurassic Park and Dude Where’s My Car. He played in the orchestras for the Oscars, Emmys and Grammys.
Richard Treat
Cellist Richard Treat has worked as a freelance musician and teacher throughout Southern California. Mr. Treat has worked with several orchestras in greater Los Angeles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Pasadena, Long Beach, and Glendale Symphonies. In addition, Richard has been principal cellist of the Santa Barbara and South Coast Symphonies, the Mozart Camerata, and the Pasadena Chamber Orchestra and played for many years with the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and the Deodara String Quartet.
As a freelance musician, Mr. Treat has played for Motion Pictures such as Lion King, Mission Impossible, Austin Powers and Thin Red Line. His recording career includes many television programs, commercials, and recordings, and he has appeared several times on the Tonight Show. Richard has also played in the orchestras for the shows Sunset Boulevard, Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, and Titanic.

Coachella Valley Philharmonic Society is a collection of world class musicians who currently reside in our valley. CVPS' goal is to provide philharmonic level playing for the residents of the Palm Springs Cultural Center and to support Youth Training Orchestras.
Our four part chamber series include Early music, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. The Chamber Series features soloists and small ensembles whose proceeds support local musicians, YTO's youth educational programs and PSCC's Theatre 3 Expansion.
