South Yorkshire businesses can collectively build the ladders of opportunity and the bridge to opportunity.
On the eve of the Autumn Budget we will welcome Lord Matthew Elliott, President and Co-founder of The Jobs Foundation. Lord Elliott will give us his analysis of the new Government’s economic priorities, and share his prescription for a growth-boosting Budget.
He will also talk about the work of The Jobs Foundation in championing business as a force for good, and discuss how Jobs Foundation Yorkshire plans to work with businesses across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster to tackle the national worklessness crisis.
More than one million young people across the UK are currently not in education, employment or training. Behind that figure is a major social and economic challenge: how do we create better routes from education into meaningful employment and give more young people the opportunity to take their first step into work?
Drawing on the Jobs Foundation’s latest research, Ladders of Opportunity and , the evening will explore the relationship between education and employment, the barriers that can prevent young people from moving into work, and what businesses and employers can do to help build stronger routes into employment.

About Lord Elliott: Matthew Elliott is the co-founder and President of the Jobs Foundation as well as a member of the House of Lords, where he sits as Lord Elliott of Mickle Fell. Matthew has founded numerous policy campaigns, including the TaxPayers’ Alliance in 2003, and has overseen two successful national referendum campaigns - the NOtoAV campaign in 2011 and the Vote Leave campaign in 2016. Last October, Matthew co-authored a book with Art Laffer - Prosperity Through Growth: Boosting Living Standards in and Age of Autocracy and AI’. He has been described by the BBC as "one of the most quietly influential people in politics in recent decades”.
