Coming off of issue 03 of The Vermin, printmaking can be understood as a way of slowing down, paying attention, and giving material form to meaningful ideas. In this workshop, participants will use one of photography's earliest printing processes to create rich blue cyanotypes using sunlight. Transform a meaningful photograph from your phone into a lasting print, or experiment with photograms by arranging objects directly onto light-sensitive paper. Whether preserving a cherished memory or simply enjoying the magic of analogue image-making, participants will leave with unique prints shaped by light itself.

Materials provided - feel free to bring your own personal objects for photogramming.

Gabrielle Tyrie is an artist and photographer. To her, photographs are the skin that covers the body of history, culture and self-expression. Despite it being pretty bleak, she loves being a contemporary artist, as she zings between digital and analogue methodologies to understand their specific emotional resonances. Tyrie has exhibited in galleries such as Gallery 44 and The Image Centre. Her work has been written about in Cornelia Magazine and CBC Arts. Tyrie is a current MFA candidate at the University of Guelph. She lives in Guelph and Toronto.

The Artist Studio is a new multidisciplinary creative studio space in Toronto’s west end. They offer multiple membership options for both shared and private spaces, as well as access to a wide selection of creative facilities and equipment.
