Customer Discovery is the process of questioning core business assumptions by interviewing real target customers before building a product.

It is vital for startups because it eliminates the single biggest cause of startup failure: building something nobody actually wants.

Instead of relying on gut instinct, it forces founders to find evidence of a painful, urgent problem that customers are actively trying to solve and willing to pay for. In short, it saves months of wasted engineering time and thousands in capital by validating the market before burning through resources.
