Host: Farah Khan [THP Senior VP, Patient Care Services]

Info: Farah Khan is a registered nurse by training, and Senior Vice President in Patient Care Services at Trillium Health Partners, Canada's largest academic community hospital. She has over 20 years of experience in healthcare and has held many progressive leadership roles in clinical operations, regional planning, and administration. A passionate champion of quality and person-centered care, she has an extensive track record of achieving results and development of high performing teams. Farah is a local and provincial award winner for many of the accomplishments she has led, including the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario’s President’s Award for Leadership in Clinical Nursing Practice, and Mayor Crombie’s City of Mississauga CIVIC Award for her work in the COVID19 pandemic . Farah is the first hijab-wearing member of the Trillium Health Partners Executive Team and was the first hijab-wearing member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Nurses Association in 2023. Info: Dr. Jeremy Petch is the Chief AI & Digital Planning Officer at Trillium Health Partners. He is an Associate Professor at IHPME at the University of Toronto and an Investigator at the Institute for Better Health. Prior to joining THP, he was the founding Director of CREATE at Hamilton Health Sciences and led Unity Health Toronto’s transformation into a data-driven organization.

Dr. Petch is the principal investigator for CarDIA-AI, the first mulit-centre randomized control trial of a Canadian-developed AI tool. He has advised provincial, national and international organizations on AI policy, including Ontario Health, Canada Health Infoway, and the United State’s Federation of State Medical Boards. He is currently leading the development of international standards for responsible AI development in healthcare at ISO, including standards on bias mitigation and AI management system standards for healthcare delivery organizations

Breaking the Myth: Eating Disorders Don't End with Age

Info: Synopsis:

Drawing on extensive clinical experience caring for adults with eating disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, this presentation will explore the unique challenges of recognizing, assessing, and treating eating disorders in older adults. While eating disorders are often perceived as conditions affecting adolescents and young adults, they can occur across the lifespan and are frequently underrecognized in geriatric populations.

Participants will learn practical strategies for identifying common signs and symptoms of eating disorders in older adults, including indicators of chronic malnutrition and the medical complications associated with prolonged nutritional compromise. The session will review key clinical assessments, laboratory investigations, and diagnostic considerations that support early recognition and timely intervention.

Unlocking Better Sleep: Adult Insomnia in Primary Care
Host: Dr. Shano Thiyagalingam

Info: Dr. Shano Thiyagalingam (Tee-ya-ga-ling-am) is a geriatrician at Trillium and clinical lecturer at the University of Toronto School of Medicine. He completed his medical school training at Saint George's University School of Medicine, internal medicine training at Rutgers University, and geriatric medicine training at the Mayo Clinic and McMaster University. At Trillium, he is currently the co-chair of Trillium’s Older Adult System of Care Committee, an initiative to implement system-wide policies to advance older adult care, and is involved in evaluating patients with Alzheimer's dementia for the novel anti-amyloid therapy. Today, he will present on insomnia in adults.

Insomnia is a common condition that affects many adults, particularly older adults. This talk will highlight its impact on comorbidities. The learner will understand the normal age-related changes in our sleep patterns. The presentation will highlight the causes of impaired sleep. An app
