Have you ever wondered if praying mantises spit? Whether bats are rats with wings or birds with fur? Or what’s the point of feathers if you can’t fly?
10-year-old Kai, whose mind is constantly brimming with curiosity, has questions like these all the time. So, she and her artistic mum hitch up their camper trailer and go in search of scientists, and species, who know. Kai is convinced the answers to her burning questions about Queensland's diverse wildlife will help her save the environment.

Author, Dr Sarah Pye, is driving from the Sunshine Coast for this one-time book launch, and she will be joined some of the incredible REAL North Queensland scientists that Curious Kai comes across on her adventures. Be prepared enjoy hands on animal activities, and learn crazy facts about spectacle flying foxes, preying mantises and cassowaries from the experts.
Curious Kai Asks Why is suitable for ages from 8-12, but the launch activities suit a wider range from five up.
