Drawing on research from the author's new book project, “Atomic Capitalism: A Global History,” this presentation examines the intersections of science, capital, and empire in global stories of nuclear fission. Focusing on Marie Curies Relationship with the Brussels-based Company Union Minière du Haut-Katanga (UMHK), which supplied her with material from the Shinkolobwe mine in the Belgian Congo for her radium in Paris and Warsaw, The Study Highlights Close Connections between Science and Business, Forming Sinews of Empire Connecting Unfree Places of the World Through ExtractActivist Logics of Capital, Labor, Resources, and Expertise. The Research Calls for Greater Focus on History of Capitalism for Writing Global History of Nuclear Fission.
