On Air - On Site is a sound investigation of a temporary radio event consisting of a broadcast schedule of 48 hours of non-stop streaming, including live performances/ shows, fixed media, and prerecorded work specifically composed for the festival.

The project re-thinks radio as a social and public space for artistic involvement, and as an exhibition space for experimental sound art and electronic music. The event is part of the ongoing initiative behind BUG Radio: an experimental community radio station based in The Hague that has now established itself with regular monthly streams, broadcasting live from West Den Haag, SoundHouse, and locations across the city, featuring a growing roster of local and international artists.

On Sunday 24 May, we stream live from West Den Haag starting with a panel talk that brings together radio makers from Mushroom Radio — the student-run station of the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague — and BUG Radio. The topic of the talk is "What does it mean to make radio today, and how can radio build community?" This is followed by live performances featuring Celestína Minichová, Paolo Piaser & Hao Teng, and Audrey Chen.

This year the Sunday programme moves on to SoundHouse for the evening, where you can expect a program of sound sculpture, live set, and DJs, and a social gathering. This afterparty is taken over and broadcast by BUG Radio at 20:00 on Sunday, thus for the first time connecting On Air - On Site with its sister project.

The entire festival of 48 hours is streamed online at www.onaironsite.com. You can tune in from Friday 22nd at 20:00 until Sunday 24 at 20:00, followed by a BUG Radio takeover at bugradio.org. The project brings together diverse radio communities, students, international and local artists, promoting radio as an art form and encouraging experimental approaches to the medium.
