Over 60 % of U.S adults have received at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, COVID-19 infections rates have declined dramatically, the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks or social distance in most situations, and we are slowly starting to return to our pre-pandemic lives.
With these encouraging trends, we couldn't be happier to presents an intimate evening of a select piece from the Essence Production followed by conversations with Salaton Ole Ntutu at the Bankhead theater
The excerpt to be presented is the "Road to the Drum", a collaborative piece that celebrates the power of AFRICAN ROOTS with drumming, song, and dance. It also celebrates the shared journey of local artists of African descent (Mali, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Brazil, Senegal, Guinea, Congo Brazzaville), who found a common voice through their shared interest of promoting their cultures to local communities. This piece reminds us that we all have individual strength, but in the spirit of Ubuntu, we are stronger together.
Salaton will join us for conversations about Maasai life and culture on his Summer visit to the US from Kenya. Salaton’s passion in life is to preserve his culture and environment. During his visits to the U.S. and Europe, he actively fundraises for projects and initiatives, including water resource projects, the purchase of land to provide space for Maasai lifestyle to continue and to protect holy and healing plants and trees, building a self sustaining economy through tourism, and continued support of educational programs.
