About this Event

Join us on Friday, August 14, from 6:00-8:00 PM, as Bill Stoler presents "A Look Back at the 1955 Fairchild National Sports Car Races." This presentation explores the largest sports car racing event on the east coast in 1955, which took place on the runways of the Hagerstown Municipal Airport!

The 1955 Fairchild Sports Car Races drew an estimated 15,000 spectators and over 200 of the best drivers in the country. Hagerstown's hotels were fully booked, and local service garages and car dealerships were packed with mechanics handling exotic sports cars like Ferraris, Jaguars, and Maseratis. One of the drivers, Phil Hill, even went on to become America’s first Formula One Champion in 1961.

You don't want to miss Bill Stoler presenting this fascinating talk! Bill is a motorsports photographer and covers vintage racing in the northeast. Utilizing his connections to the vintage racing community, he has been interviewing; gathering photos, race reports and other related stories about the event; and recently assisted with a 70th anniversary celebration of the races at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum. This presentation includes photos of the 1955 race and Fairchild Aircraft Company.

Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. C&C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Refreshments and one complimentary drink ticket are included with each ticket.

This month's cocktail will be a classic cocktail from the 1950s.
