About this Event
The Devon Mental Health Alliance is proud to be working in partnership with Health Innovation Southwest to deliver the Research Engagement Network (REN) programme, aimed at improving connectivity between Devon's people and researchers to ensure that the genuine and diverse voice of our community is captured and informs the way we work as a system.
Through the REN programme we've heard clear feedback articulating the importance of relationships in enabling effective research and evaluation. These relationships can be harder to form where we bring in assumptions, perspectives or approaches that do not fully consider the specific needs of the people we're looking to work with.
Cultural humility is a process that provides a platform to overcome these challenges by enabling self-reflection and discovery. This session will therefore provide a structured learning space to explore how we can integrate cultural humilty in our practice, addressing the following intentions:
• To consider ways to develop culturally competent services
• To explore the implication of power, privilege and whiteness on existing mental health services
• To hear directly from lived experience experts about ways to improve services
• To support participants to consider ways to improve their practice
This training session will be delivered by Ezimma Chigbo (Ez), a highly skilled consultant, facilitator and coach with wide ranging experience working on issues of social justice and anti-oppressive practice in a variety of settings. Her interest in this work stems from lived experience, coupled with her devotion to collective healing through social change. Ez has designed and facilitated bespoke anti-oppression workshops across the third sector, consultancy in public and private sectors and delivered coaching with c-suite and leadership teams. Ez’s attention to process allows her to work across different interests, identities and power dynamics; relying heavily upon her skills to centre care whilst building trust and action through tension and challenge.
Ez will be supported by members of Devon's diverse communities, marrying her expertise with local insight and knowledge.
While the session will be pitched to have particular relevance to members of the county's research community, it will be relevant for anyone interested in exploring how cultural humility can support the effective evaluation of mental health activity.
Further courses are available if you can't make this date, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of the REN Programme:
Please note : Tea, coffee and water will be provided, but please bring your own snacks.
