About this Event
In partnership with La Casa de la Cultura, Cultural Connections: Honoring Afrodescendant Women is a collaborative cultural program presented by La Casa de la Cultura and the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture. The event honors the history, resilience, voices, and cultural legacy of women of African descent, creating a participatory, intergenerational space to honor ancestral contributions while fostering cultural pride, dialogue, and connection across Charlotte's communities.
The program features an educational panel, live performances, and a dedicated children's area with drop-in activities, alongside music, dance, and storytelling that celebrate community connection and cultural heritage.

Doors Open + Children’s Art Drop-In
12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Guests are invited to explore the space, participate in the art activity, and prepare for the afternoon’s cultural program.
Live Performances
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
A dynamic series of short live performances celebrating women artists, cultural bearers, musicians, dancers, and performers connected to Afro-diasporic traditions.
Educational Panel
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
A facilitated conversation exploring cultural connections across the African Diaspora, the role of women as cultural bearers, ancestral traditions, artistic expression, identity, and the importance of preserving and sharing cultural knowledge across generations.

Bilingual singer and a guided social dance circle.
Daughters of the Drum
3:20 pm - 3:45 pm
A featured presentation celebrating the power, history, and cultural legacy of women through rhythm, movement, and ancestral musical traditions.
Collective Performance + Closing
3:45 pm - 4:00 pm
The program concludes with a collective performance bringing together the participating artists and performers for a shared celebration of culture, connection, and community.
