Culinary Medicine Program

The goal of Culinary Medicine is to blend the art of cooking with the science of medicine to prevent, treat and even reverse the diseases of our time. For CultivEAT, this translates into eating food that is both delicious and nutritious!

Founding director Dr. Farshad Fani Marvasti, MD, MPH (aka Dr. Shad), started this idea initially as a student interest group with community service projects at the medical school back in 2017. It has grown since then into the Culinary Medicine Program that now hosts several community services projects for medical students ranging from cooking classes for diabetes patients in underserved neighborhoods to delivering healthy meals and nutrition education to cancer patients in collaboration with local non-profit community partners. Dr. Shad is an Associate Professor and Director of Public Health, Prevention, and Health Promotion at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix.

COVID 19 & CultivEAT 2021

We have been closely monitoring the COVID 19 and Delta variant infection rates. We are cautiously moving forward with the live event. We will put the following precautions in place and ask that you please adhere to these and any on-site instructions to ensure the health and safety of all attendees.

1) This is an outdoor event. Extra spacing between individual gathering moments will be emphasized.

2) There will be hand sanitizing stations scattered throughout the event. Please use these generously.

3) We ask that you please keep a mask on throughout the event except when you are seated.

4) All servers, staff, and volunteers will be wearing masks & gloves. The chef team has implemented CDC recommendations in all food preparation.

We are going to great lengths to keep our guests safe and healthy. If you feel comfortable complying with these precautions, have not been exposed to anyone with COVID, have not recently tested positive and are not exhibiting any symptoms of COVID 19, then please join us to celebrate the 6th Annual CultivEAT Community Dinner.
