On Weds 9 Oct, Cuculi Presents an intimate launch gig with Bristol-based psychfolk trio Hands of the Heron to celebrate the launch of their third album Quiet Light. A long-running collaboration between Bec Garthwaite, Beth Roberts and Claire Vine, each musician brings a signature songwriting style to the band. Moving effortlessly between sparse choral folk and shimmering instrumental textures, their interlocking vocal harmonies are a constant thread running through the various hues of their dreamlike, mercurial songs. Quiet Light (Cuculi Records, 22 Nov 2024) is a seamless expression of blend and balance that explores the tension between tending for yourself and connecting with others.
Support from labelmate and friend Anna Anise, who's also celebrating the release of her EP 'Awakening' and will be joined onstage by local artist boci.
PLEASE NOTE: this event us upstairs and unfortunately there is not lift access.
There are three ticket prices available for this show:

HANDS OF THE HERON
Hands of the Heron is a dreamfolk trio from Bristol, UK. Their instantly recognisable vocal harmonies are delivered by three frontwomen - Bec Garthwaite, Beth Roberts & Claire Vine - each of whom brings a signature writing style to the band's mercurial sound. Their latest album Quiet Light is due to be released in November 2024 on their own DIY label Cuculi Records. Esteemed jazz critic Ted Gioia recommended 13 Moons as one of his top recordings for 2021, and it's also been described as "a wondrous collection of curious story-songs, choral singing and carefully layered instrumentation" (Joyzine) with "songwriting mastery that perfectly delivers reverberating folk-pop" (Tap The Feed). The band founded Cuculi Records together as a DIY space to release their own music, as well as music from their friends & collaborators from the grassroots folk-ish community including Anna Anise, Fritillaries, Thomas Calladine and Something Sleeps.
They’ve played a diverse range of festivals, including Fire in the Mountain, Purbeck Valley Folk, Green Man, Summer’s End Prog Festival, Fanny’s Meadow and Green Gathering. Recent shows include a sold-out Bristol headline show in September 2022 as part of the prestigious Outlandish Nights series, alongside Lisa O’Neill and Mikey Kenney. In 2023, they sold-out a double bill with Rachael Dadd at St Ambrose (Bristol), and also sold out headline gigs at Barrelhouse (Totnes), Exeter Library and Plymouth Aquarium. In 2024, they’re headlining prog event Eppyfest (28 July), and have played at Bristol Folk Festival and The Harrison All-Day Folk Fest in London, before embarking on a substantial album release tour in the autumn.
