Cuban Family Traditions
About this Event
Age Restrictions
For ages 16 & up
Description
¡Dale! Jump into a party of savory flavors that make Cuban home kitchens a celebration of culture, heritage, and proud culinary traditions. During class, we’ll be cooking our way through home recipes passed down from generation to generation, like bocaditos, a beloved dip or spread similar to pimento cheese (made with cooked ham instead of cheese) that’s a household snack staple.
You’ll get to understand the magic of aromatic sofrito to season black beans just right, and use the same flavor foundation to make picadillo (a classic Cuban hash) stand out—and learn how to make it sing with the addition of cumin, olives, and raisins.
Love sweets? You’ll fall head-over-heels for a Cuban flan-inspired confection called coquitos caramelados, rich bite-sized coconut kisses in a crisp, shattering caramelized-sugar shell. We’ll show you how to safely handle the hot sugar needed to create the perfect hard-crack texture — once you master this recipe, you’ll want to show off your skills and make them again and again!
At the end of class you’ll get to sit back, relax, and enjoy the flavors of a traditional Cuban meal.
You will be working in a small group. For ages 16 and up. 21 or older? You’ll enjoy a glass of wine paired with your meal.
