Winners of two Danish Music Awards Jazz in 2019 (New Artist of the Year and Composer of the Year), Svaneborg Kardyb bring their ever-evolving sound to Control on Thursday, May 7.
The Danish duo - Nikolaj Svaneborg (keys) and Jonas Kardyb (drums, percussion) - shape intricate, cyclical compositions that balance quiet warmth with a steady undercurrent of motion. Their jazz-tinged minimalism drifts between reflection and forward momentum, as soft Wurlitzer tones and crisp percussion ripple like echoes across still water.
Their latest album, Superkilen, takes its name from a public park in Copenhagen’s multicultural Nørrebro district — a fitting metaphor for their music, which carves out space, calm, and clarity amid the noise and tension of modern life.
Nikolaj often traces his gentle, velvety touch on the keys back to the Young Chang piano he grew up playing at home. “With instrumental music,” he reflects, “there are no words, so there's nothing separating everybody – everybody is on the same page, so we can really connect with people".
