About this Event
This is one of the festival's Pay What You Can events.
Join poet and artist, Denisa Hasieberova, for a morning of poetry, creativity and shared stories. Crossing Voices: Migration and Belonging will celebrate the voices, and stories of migrants and newcomers in Belfast.
Rooted in themes of migration, belonging and home, the workshop offers an inclusive space where participants will explore identity and lived experience of migra=on through poetry.
Attendees will take part in creative writing exercises, readings and shared reflection, using language and memory to connect personal stories with collective experience.
Moving to a new country often means navigating unfamiliar landscapes — both external and internal. Crossing Voices invites participants to reflect on these experiences and express them through poetry. Together, we will explore how language, memory, and creativity can bridge cultures and connect communities in Belfast. Through guided writing exercises, readings, and open sharing, attendees will have the chance to craft their own poems inspired by personal journeys, collective experiences, and the idea of what “home” means in a new place.
Open to everyone - with a particular welcome to migrant and ethnic minority communities in Northern Ireland - no previous writing experience is required, only curiosity and openness. This poetry workshop seeks to nurture creativity and foster meaningful connec=ons across cultures, contributing to community dialogue and a renewed sense of belonging.
Denisa is a poet and visual artist originally from the Czech Republic, now based on the outskirts of Belfast. Denisa’s interdisciplinary practise explores identity and migration, shaped by the experiences of living between two countries, two languages and two emotional landscapes. Denisa has recently been selected as part of the New Poets Collective 25-27 at the Southbank Centre in London, and will work with local communities through its sister project Poet in Every Port in Bangor.
