Cross Stitching 101

About this class:

Cross stitch is a timeless embroidery technique built around small, X-shaped stitches that come together to form beautiful patterns on fabric. What sets it apart from freehand embroidery is its grid-based structure, a system that makes the craft wonderfully approachable for beginners while still offering room for limitless creative expression. Many stitchers find the rhythm of it deeply calming, almost meditative.

This workshop is your hands-on introduction to everything you need to get started. You'll learn how to thread a needle, read a pattern, and place precise stitches. Whether you've never picked up a needle before or simply want to sharpen your existing skills, you'll leave ready to stitch. Cross stitch requires just a few simple tools, making it a craft you can easily learn and take anywhere!

Supplies and tools are provided for use during class with each student taking home aida cloth (cross stitch fabric), an embroidery hoop, embroidery floss, cross stitch needles, embroidery scissors, and an easy-to-follow pattern with instruction guide.

Price is per person. A ticket must be purchased for each individual attending the class.
In the event of insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund.
Class will run approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Please note that the class is hands-on and may run over or under schedule.
Cancellation Policy:
Changes and cancellations...we know life happens so we try our best to be flexible while being fair to our instructors who purchase supplies for each student. Full refunds or credits are available for cancellations made at least 5 days prior to the class. If you need to cancel after 5 days but at least 48 hours in advance, we can offer you a credit for a future class. We cannot offer any credits for cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled class.
Meet Your Instructor:
Emily Scherling has been cross stitching for well over a decade. Whether it's simple patterns, samplers, or full-coverage pieces, you can catch her toting her cross stitching most any place she goes. Emily was born and raised in Colorado. She attended CU Boulder and currently works at her grown-up job at DU. Emily always has at least two craft projects underway and she loves helping others find their creativity.
