About this Event
Anita hosts this wonderful project at the Humanist Center on the 2nd Saturday of each month (except December).
WE DO REQUIRE THAT ALL ATTENDEES BE FULLY VACCINATED.MASKING IS ADVISED, BUT NOT MANDATORY.
We will be adding something new soon. I had received information about using a wooden loom to weave the mats. Luckily, one of our HSGP members had agreed to make a loom for me. I've asked him to make two more which I hope to have available by the end of the year. This project would be perfect for people who can't or don't want to crochet. And, the beauty of it is that one mat can be created by two to four people working together. I will be bringing my weaving project to each monthly workshop. Hopefully, this will inspire more people to participate in the project so we can produce more mats to help the multitude of people experiencing homelessness.
Bring your plastic grocery bags, the only bags we can use are the ones they put your groceries in at the register.
Although we current have an ample supply of bags, you are welcome to bring any clean and dry plastic grocery bags you have, can collect, scrounge, etc. to any meetings or events that you attend. You don't have to crochet if you don't want to; you can make "plarn" (plastic yarn).
For those of you who have attended previous classes, please bring the crochet hook that you bought from Anita. If you have a 10mm or 11mm hook, please bring it. Anita will have hooks to sell for $5.00 to those who don't have one.
If any previous class attendees have finished or partially done mats, please bring them. Also bring any plastic yarn ("plarn") you have made.
This project is not suitable for very young children.
See you there,Anita

And here is an instruction video on how to do single crochet. You will want to start with the instructions at about minute 3:35 (please ignore the Hobby Lobby ad). Note that she holds her hook differently. You can use either this position or the position that Anita teaches you. Either is correct, it's just a matter of comfort and control.Single crochet stitch for beginners - Bing Videos (http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=single+crochet+stitch+for+beginners&go=Submit&qs=bs&form=QBVR#view=detail&mid=B42B1C0EE762C2E9FF28B42B1C0EE762C2E9FF28)
