Learn to read a crochet pattern. Learn how to start a scarf (or pot holder or granny square). Practice several different crochet stitches. Learn how to do a magic ring.
Leave with your crochet kid and the project you started. Once you know how to crochet, the world is your oyster! One day, you could crochet a hat, mittens, a sweater, pants(?), a bag, anything!
