Join Creek Bend resident and former Save Our Seine President Dave Watson on this fun, mildly rugged, 1.5 hour guided tour of this Seine River landscape. Currently, local residents from River Park South’s Creek Bend area, U of M Architecture students, Save Our Seine, OURS-Winnipeg and the City are discussing developing a new linear park on the Seine River, so-far named "Creek Bend Park”, that will preserve land for public use.
This tour covers numerous points of interest in the area like the Miner Family and the contributions of Barnardo Boys like Art Miner to Manitoba history; found artifacts from the former Conestoga Campground that are Instagram ready; listening to the amorous amphibians in the wetlands; and the Big Hand! Participants may lament the past land clearings, but feel optimistic knowing that reforestation and enhancement is under discussion, and the group will explore whether a riverside or riparian forest has to be officially called a “park” to be loved and treasured.
Date: Saturday, May 4
Time: 2PM sharp
Meeting Place: Creek Bend is the last road found on St. Anne’s Road (left hand side) before the Perimeter Highway. Participants will meet at the new gravel parking lot on Creek Bend Road found immediately north of the Provincial Aimes Road Bridge.
Walk/Tour Time: 1.5 hours (2PM - 3:30PM)
There are various walking paths including gravel, bark, and dirt. Comfortable, waterproof footwear is ideal. Due to wood ticks, long pants are suggested. Tour will be in English.
Uneven terrain (steep slopes/stairs/barriers), family-friendly, pet-friendly, fun for kids
