When the sun goes down, the moths come out! Join us for a nighttime adventure exploring the fascinating world of moths. We’ll start with a short discussion about what makes moths special—including their role as pollinators, their incredible diversity, and how they differ from butterflies. Then we’ll use light traps and bait stations to attract moths, observe them up close, and work on identifying different species. You’ll be amazed by the beauty and variety of these often-overlooked nighttime insects! This program is recommended for families and nature enthusiasts ages 8 and up. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 9:00 PM. We will stay near the barn and classroom area for this program, which will last about 2 hours. Activities include an educational presentation followed by hands-on observation of moths and other night insects. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp with a red light option if you have one. Please do not use insect spray if you plan to help with insect catching or handling. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
