What is Sacred Spaces?

Sacred Spaces is an environmental justice focused restoration project that creates a sanctuary for thriving habitats for wildlife and healing space for people to reconnect to nature. Sacred Spaces aims to redefine the relationship between nature, mental wellness, and spirituality, particularly within communities that have been historically marginalized.

Join us, July 13th for a creators collaboration session with other local artist and innovators to help shape the arts & culture design elements of this shoreline sanctuary.

Sacred Spaces places a strong emphasis on arts and culture as integral components of its revitalization efforts. By weaving together the stories, traditions, and artistic expressions of local communities, the project aims to create vibrant and inclusive outdoor spaces that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline. Through murals, sculptures, performances, and interactive installations, Sacred Spaces seeks to engage visitors in meaningful dialogues about history, identity, and the environment, fostering a sense of belonging and connection to the land.

This is our first public design session to get insight from the community on how they would like to see this space redesigned in a culturally relevant and environmental justice centerd way. Your involvment will help inform signage, overall style and feel of space, space arrangements, materials used for seating and other amenities, etc. Arts & Crafts materials will be provided, yet you're welcome to bring your own materials as well. Snacks, lunch and water will provided throughout the day!
