About the Speaker
Oscar Fuentes, known as The Biscayne Poet, is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist, poet, author, performer, and creative force who has been dedicated to the arts for more than 30 years.
Born in Manhattan, New York to immigrant parents from Honduras, Oscar’s work is deeply rooted in family, memory, place, culture, and the vibrant spirit of Miami. Through poetry, storytelling, performance, and community engagement, he has built a body of work that invites people to slow down, reflect, connect, and see the beauty in everyday life.
Oscar is currently promoting his latest book, Geography of Light, released in 2026. He is the author of 13 books, including Relics of the Heart: Stories of my Family, Poetry City, Biscayne Inferno and Other Stories, and Geography of Light. His writing captures the emotional landscape of family history, personal identity, Miami life, and the moments of light that shape who we are.
Known for his signature typewriter poetry performances, Oscar brings poetry directly to the people in a way that feels immediate, personal, and alive. His unique presence recently earned him a feature on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Miami, where he showcased his typewriter poetry performance and introduced a broader audience to his creative practice.
Oscar also hosts a poet-in-residency program at the 1 Hotel South Beach, where he writes on his typewriter for the public every Saturday afternoon. Through this interactive experience, he brings poetry into a public setting and creates meaningful, one-of-a-kind moments with visitors, locals, and the broader community.
In recognition of his contributions to Miami’s literary and creative community, Oscar was awarded the inaugural Miami-Dade Mayoral Poetry Commendation by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. Represented by Indie Earth Books and Jitney Books, Oscar brings a distinctly Miami-inspired style to his art, even down to his signature typewriter-tape mustache.
His work reminds us that poetry is not confined to the page. It can live in conversation, in memory, in community, and in the shared spaces where people come together to be moved, inspired, and seen.

Please note that CreativeZen will not be hosting a July event due to the holiday weekend and our host traveling. We look forward to gathering again for our August CreativeZen event on Friday, August 14, 2026.
The talk will be located inside Zero Empty Spaces Artist Studios, located in Atrium B at the Design Center of the Americas in Dania Beach.
There is ample free parking available. Once you enter through the main entrance at the center of the complex, where there is a roundabout parking overhang with the DCOTA letters above it, walk toward the concierge desk and make a left. Once the hallway opens up to the atrium, make another left and the Zero Empty Spaces studio will be on your left-hand side.
Doors open on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 8:30 AM for community connection time and coffee.
The talk begins promptly at 9:00 AM.
