CreativeMornings MKE | "COMPETENCIA" with Dana Spandet
About this Event
About CreativeMornings
CreativeMornings is a global, volunteer-led breakfast lecture series designed for the creative community. Founded by Tina Roth-Eisenberg in New York City in 2008, it now hosts free monthly events in over 200 cities worldwide — providing an accessible space for designers, entrepreneurs, artists and other creative professionals to connect, find inspiration and build community.
The CreativeMornings Milwaukee chapter has been active since 2014. With CreativeMornings MKE, we foster Milwaukee's diverse creative community through boundary-breaking events at unique venues. Our free monthly Friday gatherings aim to ignite fresh perspectives, fostering an inclusive, vibrant space with engaging speakers. We champion diverse voices, inspire innovative thinking, and forge meaningful connections, enriching personal and professional landscapes. By transcending barriers, exploring new neighborhoods and nurturing creativity, we unite neighborhoods and harmonize voices, propelling our city forward in a collective spirit of creativity and inclusivity.
About Our Speaker
ChatGPT called her "midwest fancy trash" — you be the judge. Dana Spandet is the co-owner and chef behind Flour Girl & Flame, a nationally recognized wood-fired catering company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Known for pushing the boundaries of live-fire cooking while building community around the table, Dana has earned a reputation for creating memorable dining experiences that celebrate local farmers, seasonal ingredients and genuine hospitality.
A passionate advocate for equity and inclusion in the culinary world and beyond, Dana serves on the community advisory boards of She Stands Tall, Forward, Out Families, and Women in the Field, supporting organizations that empower women, strengthen LGBTQ+ communities, and foster belonging. She believes food has the power to bring people together and spark meaningful conversations.
When she's not firing pies or planning her next event, Dana can usually be found tending to her home garden, where she finds inspiration in the rhythms of the seasons and the simple joy of growing food.
Whether cultivating vegetables, herbs or flowers, the garden serves as both a creative outlet and a reminder that the best meals always begin with caring for the land.
You may recognize Dana's work from our very own tasty CM MKE fundraiserfood last November, from her feature on PBS's Wisconsin Foodie in April of 2025, or by her massive wood-fired oven seen at Alice's Garden, street markets and at special events all around Milwaukee.
We are fired-up to host Dana and her community-building energy for July.

About Our Performer
Mie (pronounced “mEE”) is a Milwaukee-based singer-songwriter and producer crafting cinematic, emotionally unfiltered music at the intersection of indie pop, blues and alternative folk.
Known offstage as Maggie Schmidt, she writes with striking honesty — transforming experiences of trauma, power, desire and self-reclamation into songs that feel both intimate and mythic. Her debut Alchemie EP (2021) introduced her as a fearless new voice in the indie scene. Since then, she has performed at Summerfest, SoFar Sounds and American Family Field, was featured on Milwaukee PBS’s Rhythm Café, and has taken her stage presence overseas with performances in Barcelona and Berlin — solidifying her as an artist with both local roots and international reach.
The music video for her song "Freakshow" was featured among other local artists in this year's Milwaukee Film Festival. Mie's latest EP release, The Cave, explores avoidance, spectacle, longing, self-confrontation and transformation through a blend of electrofolk, cinematic production and emotionally-unguarded songwriting. "It is both a descent and a becoming." With each project, Mie invites listeners deeper — into the dark, into the body, and ultimately, into the light.
