Our theme for June is CURATE. It was chosen by our Orange County chapter in California, illustrated by Fred Villa, and is presented by Adobe.
Our Orange County chapter had this to say about the significance of this month’s theme:
"To us, curate is about perspective. In a world overflowing with information, content, ideas, and tools, the ability to curate—to choose, shape, and sequence—has become more powerful than simply knowing or creating. It’s no longer just about the outcome, but about crafting a thoughtful and meaningful experience that reflects a deeper creative vision.”

Our Speaker: Tobias Zikmund
Tobias is active as a painter and a public artist, often addressing the significance of land and place through his work. He grew up on a pig farm near Pisek, in northeast North Dakota, and studied painting and art history at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He’s lived in Fargo-Moorhead since 2018, with stints in Washington, DC, and rural France.
Recent artistic activity includes a solo show, Electric Fence, at the Rourke Art Gallery + Museum; residency at the New York Mills Cultural Center; Public Art, Civic Practice at TEDxFargo; a two-person show, Garden Variety, at The Spirit Room; and Spring Awaits, WICK Gallery, Minneapolis. Tobias has received grants from Fargo’s The Arts Partnership, the North
Dakota Community Foundation, and Springboard for the Arts. Projects of his include Pony Club, a domestic gallery project; the Stables, a group studio; the annual, international Great Mail Art Exchange; and a tomato-forward garden.
Outside the arts, his interests are in social connection, rural vitality, language and cultural exchange, and leadership development for artists and youth. These interests have led him to work across politics, education, and community placemaking and events, and he currently works with the North Dakota Council on the Arts leading a large-scale public art program. Plus, he’s active with Fargo’s Downtown Neighborhood Association, North Dakota 4-H, and local political efforts. He’s trying to sew more.
