About this Event
You're warmly invited to join us for our Creative Writing Summer Show, where we will launch Unlocked - this year's anthology of new creative writing by students and staff at the College of English and Media, Birmingham City University.
The show will include readings of exciting new work in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Our special guest speaker is Alison Jean Lester. Alison spent her early life in the US and the UK, and pursued her higher education in the US, China and Italy. She lived in Japan from 1991 to 1999, working as a freelance writer and voiceover artist, and giving birth to her two children. From 1999 to 2016 she lived in Singapore, where she worked as a communication coach, performed and taught improvised comedy, and wrote her novels Lillian on Life and Yuki Means Happiness and her short story collection Locked Out: Stories Far from Home. Since moving to England, she has published two more novels, Glide and The Sound of It, and a memoir, Absolutely Delicious: A Chronicle of Extraordinary Dying. She has also edited a collection of her late father’s writing, Return to the Scene of the Climb. Alison's website is here.
This is a FREE event - simply register through Eventbrite.
Wine and canapés will be served - and you will be able to take away FREE copies of the anthology!
