Creative Workshops @ Surface Gallery - DAY 1 - Thursday 28th May

Let's transform our alleyway into a vibrant canvas for this year's Street Art Festival! We're raising funds to give the space a fresh coat of paint, and we'd love your help. Entry is completely free, but we invite you to make a suggested donation of £5, or simply pay what you can to support the art.

Ready to turn simple cords into stunning art?

Dive into the mesmerizing world of Chinese Knotting! This isn't just a craft session - it's a journey through centuries of tradition and meaning. Sip on aromatic Chinese tea, relax, and watch as flat cords transform into intricate pieces. Prior experience not required - your workshop lead, Zoe, will guide you at each step!

Bring your own flair:

• The thicker the cord, the easier your knots will be to tie - braided Nylon, satin cord, or macrame cords work wonders
• Decorative beads, tassels, or charms to personalize your creation

Don't worry if you forget: We'll have plenty of cords ready for you to start weaving immediately

Safety first: We use pins to anchor cords onto our provided cardboard bases and sewing needles to secure the knots. Please handle these sharp tools with care!

Dive into the power of written and spoken word, where we'll be exploring the 'art of noticing' and presentness. Join us for this poetry workshop for a supportive and safe environment to share your own work, uplift others and learn to use poetry as an outlet! The open mic is a collaboration with Free Minds poetry–a monthly open mic hosted at the King Billy, who for this special event are bringing their words to Surface Gallery. Don't worry if you have never tried poetry before - your workshop lead, Jas, will give tips on how to put thoughts and feelings onto paper. Refreshments including drinks and snacks are included!
