About this Event
Join us for a relaxed, creative session exploring Afghan and Syrian traditions through paper crafts, storytelling, and shared tastes. Perfect for families and individuals—no experience needed.
What You’ll Do:
- Paper “Bonfire” of Renewal: Create a symbolic bonfire using tissue paper and reflect on hopes for the year ahead, inspired by Charshanbe Suri traditions.
- Buzkashi Horse Craft: Cut and decorate paper horses with Afghan-inspired patterns—fun for both children and adults.
- Syrian Tile & Pattern Art: Design blue-and-white “ceramic” style tiles on card inspired by traditional Syrian designs.
- Shared Snack Table (No Cooking): Enjoy a simple tasting table with items such as Afghan Haft Mewa (mixed dried fruits and nuts) and refreshing mint tea.
Who It’s For:
Suitable for all ages.
What to Bring:
Nothing required—just yourself. If you’d like, bring a family recipe or a memory to add to our “Map of Memories” collage.
Facilitated by:
Monika A. Lenard community facilitator with 20+ years’ experience working alongside women and families in multicultural settings. Monika’s practice centres on safety, dignity, and voice, helping participants tell their stories through accessible arts, food, and practical skill‑sharing.
