Join us for a dynamic workshop that explores the textures and surfaces that define your unique artistic style. We’ll begin with a brief slide talk that examines texture and surface through art history, drawing insights from both historical and contemporary artists.
In this workshop, you'll engage in an 'Erase and Trace' drawing activity and experiment with various materials to create diverse abstract surfaces and tap into the opportunities already present within the work. Techniques such as layering, rubbing, scratching, staining, and wax resistance will be explored to uncover how these methods can take your work to unexpected places and enhance your personal style.
You’ll respond to creative prompts, draw inspiration from your surroundings, and collaborate with peers to generate experimental work that develops your artistic handwriting through shape, colour, pattern, and texture. By the end of the workshop, you'll have pushed the boundaries of material use, discovered exciting new techniques, and gained confidence in your distinct visual language. This supportive and inclusive environment welcomes all abilities, making it perfect for those looking to start or refine their individual art practice.
