About this Event
Join Women’s Audio Mission for Creative Sound Design for Film & TV featuring This in-depth post-production sound workshop will begin with the basics of editing sound effects to cover on-screen action. Then we will dive into the creative art of going beyond what is on-screen and use sound design to build new worlds.
An interactive editing session will give attendees the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and learn tricks of the trade to elevate their sound design to a place where it doesn’t simply match the picture, but instead elevates the story.
We will end with a Q&A session in which attendees may ask follow-up questions on the art of sound design or receive career advice.

From there, Kate and her business partner, Jeff Shiffman, started Boom Box Post, a boutique post-production sound studio located in Burbank, CA.
In addition to co-owning the studio, Kate is a re-recording mixer and supervising sound editor at Boom Box Post, leading multiple crews of sound personnel to create individualized and comprehensive sound packages for animated television series and films.
Kate has been nominated for seven MPSE Golden Reel Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing and five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Women's Audio Mission courses focus on increasing the gender balance in audio production and technology sectors since fewer than 5% of the population employed in these sectors are women and gender-expansive individuals. There are limited spots available in WAM classes, and they often sell out, so we ask that if you are not woman-identified (cisgender or transgender), nonbinary, or gender-expansive, you reconsider enrolling in the class. We will not turn anyone away, but please be mindful that if you take up a seat in the class, that is one less woman, non-binary, or gender-expansive individual that we can serve. We thank you for your understanding in advance and for joining us in our mission to advance women and girls in music production and the recording arts.
By purchasing a ticket for this event, I grant Women's Audio Mission and its staff, volunteers, professional photographers, and the media the absolute right and permission to take during the Event, and to use and publish, photographs of me, still or moving, with or without my name, and to reproduce same through any media, for artistic, promotional, advertising, web content or other commercial and non-commercial purposes, and I shall not be entitled to any monetary compensation of any kind in respect thereof.
