Understand your rights as a creative
If you missed this session last year - or want to build on it - Creative Rights Educator / Kaiwhakahaere Whakapā from Copyright Licensing New Zealand - Karen Workman returns to Queenstown and Wānaka for a practical workshop designed to demystify creative rights and the resale royalty scheme now in effect.
This is about getting clear on the fundamentals. Karen will break down New Zealand’s copyright law in a way that actually makes sense. What’s protected, how your work can be used and how to navigate it when things don’t go to plan. Drawing across visual arts, literature, screen and music, the session is grounded in real scenarios artists are dealing with now.
For those who have attended previously, this session builds on earlier conversations, including the impact of AI, contracts and how creative work is being shared, reused and reshaped in a rapidly changing environment.
The session will also unpack the Artists’ Resale Royalty scheme now in effect. What it means in practice, who it applies to and what you need to understand.
Time for questions and discussion throughout.
You’ll get:
A clear understanding of your rights as a creative
Insight into how resale royalties work in practice
Practical guidance on protecting and valuing your work
Context on emerging issues shaping creative ownership
This is for you if you want to understand your rights and how to protect the value of your work.
