Creative Recovery in Action
Join us for an inspiring afternoon celebrating the power of creativity in recovery. Creative Recovery in Action brings together people in recovery and the wider community through film, music and photography - exploring recovery in all its forms and the role creativity plays in healing, expression and connection.
The event will take place on Friday 29th May, 12.30pm – 4.30pm at the Fairfield Club. This is a sober event and lunch will be provided - thanks to the Fairfield Club for supporting and accommodating this space.
The afternoon features a screening of Experience, Strength and Broke, followed by a powerful panel discussion with Darren McGarvey (Author/ Musician/Social Commentator), Maddie Kitchen (Sobriety Films/Recovery Street Film Festival), Garry Fraser (GAF Media) and Donna Boyd (Freed Up CIC). Together, they’ll share personal insights into their recovery journeys and how creativity has shaped their lives, work and impact within the wider community and creative industries.
Live performances will showcase artists from the HomegrownAlwaysBest EP Experience, Strength and Broke - the soundtrack to the film - as well as contributions from the Freed Up Music Workshop, highlighting emerging voices rooted in lived experience.
We’ll also premiere the official video for Insecure by Jam Harvie, created in collaboration with Scoosh Productions - a raw and powerful piece exploring generational trauma, addiction and the breaking of cycles.
With thanks to Sunny Govan Community Radio for partnering on this event. Some of the day’s content has been made possible through the Sunny Govan Radio and Creative Scotland HipHop Bursary.
This is more than an event - it’s a space for connection, storytelling and celebrating recovery through creativity.
